Biofilms

The goal of the group is to provide a forum for exchanging and disseminating information related to recent advances in understanding of biofilm processes and in development of biofilm technologies.

The scope of our interests includes on one hand all natural and engineered aquatic systems in which sessile bacteria are found and on the other hand all biological, chemical and physical processes which affect biofilm behaviour. We achieve the goal by organizing specialized biofilm conferences, organizing task groups dedicated to various aspects of biofilm processes, fostering biofilm related publications and an managing an online biofilm scientific discussion group.

The upcoming group conference: Biofilm Conference 2011: Processes in Biofilms was held on 27-30 October 2011 in Shanghai, China. More information can be found on the conference website: www.iwabiofilm2011.com.  The next conference organized by the Biofilm Specialist Group will be dedicated to biofilm reactors and biofilm technologies. It will be held in May of 2013, in Paris, France, and the exact dates of the conference will soon be announced.

Biofilms Scientific Discussion Group

At the recent meeting of the Management Committee of the Biofilm Specialist Group in Portland, Oregon, the group leaders decided to contact all members and remind them that they can use the Biofilm Scientific Discussion Group to communicate with other biofilm researchers and practitioners, to initiate discussions, to ask questions and share experiences related to biofilm processes. The home page of the Biofilm Specialist Group, located at http://www.iwa-biofilm.org/ has an entry Biofilm Scientific Discussion Group which explains how to subscribe to the discussion group, how to send and receive messages. Participating in the discussion group has many benefits and we hope that this instrument of communication will be widely used by the members of the biofilm specialist group.
