Health-related Water Microbiology

The group was the first of the specialist groups, endorsed in 1977 as Water Virology Specialist Group (within the former IAWPRC). The Specialist Group is a forum for the exchange of scientific information in the field of health-related water microbiology. This encompasses many fields of expertise: from environmental to clinical virology, bacteriology and parasitology, from infectious diseases epidemiology to risk assessment methodology; from water treatment engineering to environmental health practice.

The Specialist Group organises conference sessions at the IWA biennial world congress and specialised conferences and workshops. The proceedings are published in Water, Science and Technology. The next SG conference: 17th International Symposium on Health-Related Water Microbiology will be held in Florianopolis (Floripa), Santa Catarina, Brazil, 15-20 September 2013.
