Conference Guidance

Specialist and Regional Conferences form a vitally important part of the range of IWA activities, providing a mechanism for the exchange of information through refereed conference papers, or by oral and poster presentation of papers. IWA actively seeks to encourage its members and Specialist Groups to hold conferences and has prepared new Conference Notes, providing consistent guidance on the necessary sequence of steps in holding a successful event. We also have prepared a budget template to help you to prepare your event.

These Notes are only applicable to those events where the focus is on the creation of a significant meeting connected to the production of a quality, reviewed proceedings publication. Other procedures will be made available for the holding of events such as workshops and seminars in due course.

Once your confernece is approved, you will need to follow the IWA Style Guide in all the materials produced for the event.

While organising your conference, you would like to recommend Communicating Science Effectively to your presenters. In this practical handbook it is shown how to communicate science effectively: There is an introduction to the principles of science communication and what effective science communication is, why it is important, and how to do it.

If you would like further details about how to organise an IWA conference and how to apply for IWA sponsorship for your event, please contact Adrian Puigarnau , Programmes Officer at IWA's Office.
