Task Forces

Strategic leadership on thinking, policy and practice...

To complement the work of the Association's specialist and task groups, IWA has identified a series of task forces designed to allow members to concentrate on key strategic challenges over a limited time period.  The London office role is to facilitate, support and manage these task forces.

Based both on the IWA’s Solutions though Innovation booklet, and in further thinking internally at the Association, the following urgent challenges were identified as falling within the scope of the taskforces:

• The need for new approaches to providing access to water and sanitation that motivate sustained local engagement (Access)
• The need to develop economically and ecologically viable supplemental options to conventional sanitation (Sanitation 21)
  The need to address dry and drought prone regions (Dry Area Forum)
• A meaningful impact on the global future of water quality and health (Water and Health)
• The need to advance the theory, science and practice of;sustainable water management
• The need to promote womens leadership and participation in the water sector (Women in Water)

Within IWA, task groups have been or are being developed to support each of the above – respectively aimed at advancing understanding and progress in addressing these issues In most, if not all of these task groups, the individuals involved will come from both the IWA membership and other organisations.

In addition to contributing to practical solutions to pressing problems, these task groups and their related activities will enhance the prestige and visibility of the IWA Specialist Groups tied to them – further leveraging the excellent work being accomplished by the groups.
