Global Water Research Coalition (GWRC) Twelve world leading research organisations have established an international water research alliance: the Global Water Research Coalition (GWRC). GWRC is a non-profit organisation that serves as the collaborative mechanism for water research. The product the GWRC offers its members is water research information and knowledge. Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) IADB is an international organization established and headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, in 1959 to support Latin American and Caribbean economic and social development and regional integration. IWA signed an agreement with IADB in 2009 which focused on four common areas of work: water operators partnerships; water safety plans; a rating system for water operators to assess and score water and sanitation utilities’ efficiency levels; and coordination at national and regional events. www.iucn.org
National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) NEERI provides leadership in environmental science and engineering for sustainable development in India. Partners for Water and Sanitation (PAWS) PAWS is a not-for profit partnership that focuses on sharing technical expertise to build the capacity of the water and sanitation sector in Africa. Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) is a policy institute that seeks sustainable solutions to the world’s escalating water crisis. SIWI manages projects, synthesises research and publishes findings and recommendations on current and future water, environment, governance and human development issues. IWA has a history of long collaboration with SIWI, primarily through the annual World Water Week in Stockholm, and helps to guide, shape and deliver large sections of the technical programme each year. www.siwi.org
UNESCO-IHE The UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education is an international institute for water education that was created in 2003 from the previous Institute of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering. UNWATER UNWATER is a mechanism of the United Nations, endorsed in 2003, to support states in their water related efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals. UNWATER strengthens coordination and coherence among UN agencies and partners relating to all aspects of freshwater and sanitation. Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) WSUP supports local service providers around the world to deliver affordable and sustainable water and sanitation services to poor people in urban communities of developing countries. Water, Engineering and Development Centre (WEDC) WEDC is one of the world's leading education and research institutes for developing knowledge and capacity in water and sanitation for low- and middle-income countries. Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) WSSCC is an international organization administered by UNOPS and with its secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland. It is a global multi-stakeholder partnership organization that works to improve the lives of poor people by enhancing collaboration among sector agencies and professionals around sanitation and water supply. Through this work it contributes to the broader goals of poverty eradication, health and environmental improvement, gender equality and long-term social and economic development. IWA is involved in the governance of WSSCC through its steering committee and works jointly within the framework of its urban sanitation and climate change working groups. www.wsscc.org/
World Bank The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. It is made up of two unique development institutions owned by 186 member countries—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). IWA has been working closely with the water team at the World Bank over several years, on issues relating to utilities, sanitation options, performance indicators and benchmarking and in supporting the World Bank water week.
World Health Organisation (WHO) WHO is a specialised agency of the United Nations that acts as a coordinating authority on public health. IWA is an NGO in official relations with the agency, and has a rolling two year programme of work focused on: drinking water quality guidelines; water safety planning; operation and maintenance; household water treatment and storage; disaster risk management and publications such as the Journal of Water and Health. www.who.int
World Water Council (WWC) The World Water Council aims to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels, including the highest decision making level, to facilitate the efficient management and use of water in all its dimensions and on an environmentally sustainable basis. IWA was one of the founding members of WWC, and in recent years has taken a strong role in helping to shape and direct the technical programme at the triennial World Water Forums. www.worldwatercouncil.org
