IWA Utilities’ provides knowledge from a trusted source – you own peers – who deal with real world, real time utility challenges. It provides access to privileged information, not available elsewhere, on workable solutions to these challenges.
Utilities, their people and those with an interest in utilities management or operation, are an important and integral part of the IWA family. IWA Utilities has been established to ensure that utilities – public and private – have a forum to share common issues, present a voice on global matters and deliver a challenging and practical programme.
IWA Utilities offers a programme of initiatives to provide an additional focus for services to individual and corporate utility members and to enhance networking opportunities for all those involved with or interested in utilities matters. IWA Utilities will be of particular interest to utility leaders, managers and practitioners.
IWA provides an opportunity for utilties to network with utilities outside their normal sphere, to use the expertise of other utilities to help you solve your problems, to develop your staff through seeing new issues and solutions and to continually inspire and encourage you.
As with any IWA programme, IWA Utilities will be driven by its members. Utility representatives, regulators, governments and others will value the IWA Utilities Programme as well as the other benefits and opportunities within the association:
A programme of dedicated meetings and events for CEOs and utility leaders, comprising open sessions and the opportunity to network privately. Regionally based, they will offer global perspectives.
Reference papers allow IWA to clearly and simply articulate the key issues associated various topics. They can be a useful resource for utilities and are a key mechanism to allow utilities to present a united voice on issues.
Working with UN Habitat, WHO, the Asian Development Bank and others to systematically promote and broker “Water Operators Partnerships” throughout the world’.
Performance assessment and benchmarking can increase transparency in the water sector and help drive improvements and efficiency gains. A Benchmarking conference with over 100 participants from 25 countries was held in 2009 in Amsterdam. Presentations from the conference are available here. Other work includes an IWA taskforce that is working to develop a guidance framework to support members who are interesting in benchmarking.
In addition to IWA Publishing’s other highly respected journals there are two journals that utility members find highly valuable: WUMI (Water Utility Management International) and WAMI (Water Asset Management International)
Utilities may also be interested in the Statistics Booklet produced by the 'IWA Statistics and Economics Specialist Group'. These booklets are produced for each biennual congress and compares water usuage and prices from the point of view of the domestic customer, whose main interest is the amount of the water bill. Such a comparison allows the actual charges to be compared in relation to the GDP of each country.
Through journals, conferences and workshops utlities are exposed to new ideas and possibilities. These events, and membership with IWA, provide an opportunity to make new contacts which can support you in the future. Why not join and use the collective know-how of IWA to tackle your emerging issues or to find the right person to talk to.
IWA Utility members are also interested in other IWA programmes including Climate Change, Young Water Professionials and Drinking Water Quality
