The provision of safe drinking water is fundamental to protecting public health. Emerging health risks associated with drinking water supplies requires the continuous development of innovative technologies and management strategies to ensure that drinking water is of a good quality. The development and implementation of new management practices and the application of new technologies requires leadership from an interdisciplinary and global professional body such as IWA and the participation of its members.
A range of technology options and planning frameworks exist to enhance the sustainability of sanitation service provision. There are no universal answers; rather interventions that are tailored to the local needs of users; suites of technical options that relate to specific situations and a host of non-technical issues for consideration. IWA operates a range of projects focused on sanitation.
