Water and Health Task Force
While the relationship between water quality and health is known to be strong and much has been written about elements within this linkage, there appears to be no comprehensive statement of the state of the art of knowledge in this area. Of itself, this would be sufficient motivation to generate such a document. In fact, the need to better understand the linkages between water quality, heatlh and their current status is supplemented by dminishing water quality in many locations around the world - through the effect of reducing quantity, through failing infrastructure and by pollution from extraneous sources.
Responding to this need, the International Water Association (IWA) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) are working jointly to convene an international expert advisory group, referred to as a 'task force'. The overall objective of this initiative will be to identify and present the current state of knowledge about these linkages, highlighting any gaps or uncertainties in that knowledge and pursuing some of the questions that arise.
