The last global IWA – WHO International Conference on Water Safety Plans was held in Lisbon in 2008. It provided an opportunity to signpost best practice in water quality management and helped to stimulate further implementation of Water Safety Plans. In 2010, we have an opportunity to look at a wider range of options for improving drinking water safety and consider their application in a more comprehensive approach.
The theme of the conference is managing drinking water quality for public health and covers the range of contexts, including urban, community and household level management of drinking water quality and also other specific settings such as health care facilities and schools. The programme committee is looking for innovative research, appropriate technologies, best practice for operation and management and policy instruments which address challenges related to the management of drinking water quality. Of particular interest are submissions which respond to the significant drivers of today including the impacts of climate change, increased urbanization and managing sources for drinking water, both traditional and non-conventional (such as desalination and water reuse).
