Almost a year after the award, we asked Dr. Norhayati to tell us about her experiences as IWA Ambassador as well as her current activities and projects as IWA Water Leader. IWA contributing to UN’s future Sustainable Development Goal on water

In the post-2015 Millennium Development Goal era, the management of wastewater and other residuals from human activity to reduce water pollution, will be critical for society and the environment. IWA is playing an influential role is setting the future targets and indicators for wastewater management. These will form an integral component of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal for Water.
The UN-Water Wastewater Task Force, of which IWA is a member, has recently submitted its recommendations to UN-Water. Within the UN-Water upcoming political decision-making processes, IWA will be playing an active role in the promoting the ratification of the target and indicators.
IWA will be participating at forthcoming events at the Stockholm Water Week and the Budapest Water Summit where the proposed target will be debated. We encourage IWA members to join us and contribute towards these important discussions. To contact Jonathan Parkinson
The IWA announces new Executive Director

The International Water Association (IWA), the leading network of water professionals world-wide, has appointed Ger Bergkamp (PhD) as its new Executive Director. Ger Bergkamp is taking up this position following the footsteps of former Executive Director Paul Reiter. The selection by the IWA Board was made after a global search and selection process, during which Ger Bergkamp served as the IWA Interim Executive Director.
“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” says Glen Daigger, President of the IWA. “Ger will bring leadership and creativity to the IWA along with a deep sense of commitment to the association and the water and waste water sector at large.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the IWA and work with all members, participants and partners to strengthen the water profession,” remarks Ger Bergkamp. “I am dedicated to the water and waste water sector as it addresses vital needs of societies around the world. The IWA is in a unique position to continue to play a key role in supporting water professionals to exchange, learn and update their knowledge, skills and know-how. Building on its unique global network IWA will focus further on connecting people, pioneering science and leading practice.”
Ger Bergkamp will lead a talented and committed group of professionals who serve the IWA through its Secretariat located around the world. Glen Daigger: “We are at a unique time in the history of water on this planet, and in the history of the IWA. We are an Association of leaders, working to advance the management of water on the planet. I know that Ger will be an excellent member of our global team during this important time of change”.
