IWA appoints a Director for its newly established regional office in Washington, DC

IWA is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristina Kohler to the position of Director of IWA North America – a region that comprises close to 1,000 individual members of IWA as well as key corporate and institutional members and affiliates.

The overall objective for IWA’s new North American office, to be located in Washington, DC, is to support IWA’s member network while also serving as a point of coordination for IWA’s work with North American water organisations (e.g .,WEF) as well as with IWA’s global development partners situated in Washington D.C., the United States and Canada (e.g., the World Bank, Inter American Development Bank and USAID).

North America has always been recognised for its leadership and prominence in urban water and wastewater treatment. This appointment demonstrates IWA’s commitment to support its North American membership and expand engagement in the region in the many global programs and Specialist Groups available through IWA.

Kristina has over 20 years of experience in product development and strategic marketing. Her professional experience spans multiple sectors including water, technology, financial services and nonprofit management – giving her a unique perspective on different ways of problem solving and how to connect, innovate and build programs requiring multi-stakeholder engagement.

For the last two years, Kristina has served as Partnership Development Specialist at Development Alternatives Inc (DAI), working on the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) program “Advancing the Blue Revolution Initiative.” This program sought to address some of the most challenging water issues in the Middle East and Africa: the lack of access by the poor to improved water and sanitation services, inefficient and nonproductive water use, and transboundary river basin conflicts. She brings a broad set of relationships to IWA including leading private sector companies, business platforms and NGOs. Kristina holds an MBA from Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina and a Dual BA in German Literature and International Relations from Dartmouth College. Kristina is fluent in German and proficient in French and Spanish.
