IWA SG Bio Cluster
In response to increasing member interest in crosscutting research and dialogues across IWA Specialist Groups, two Specialist Group “Clusters” – the Bio- Cluster and the Smart Water Cluster have been formed.
The interest in Bio-Cluster formation has been stimulated by the dizzying advances in molecular biology, and at the same time recognition of the need for new solutions to water treatment problems that draw on all available biological tools in the water and wastewater treatment process.
Initially the Bio-Cluster includes nine Specialist Groups which are working across areas covering the budding merge of microbial
ecology and engineering:
-
Anaerobic Digestion
-
Biofilms
-
Health Related Water Microbiology
-
Membrane Technology
-
Microbial Ecology and Water Engineering
-
Nutrient Removal and Recovery
-
Sludge Management
-
Use of Macrophytes in Water Pollution Control
-
Waste Stabilization Ponds
The group is working together with the International Society of Microbial Ecology (ISME) and it is anticipated that other groups will join the cluster in the future.
The cluster ihas held a cluster workshop right before Singapore Water Convention on June 30 to July 2, 2011. Detialed information will come soon.
